On February 5, 2014 at the Irkutsk aviation plant (IAP) – branch of JSC IRKUT Corporation (member of UAC) a meeting was held on the issues concerning the preparations for serial production of MC-21 commercial airliner.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of Russia Yuri Slyusar, Director of Aviation industry Department of the Ministry of Industry and Trade Andrey Boginsky, President of JSC IRKUT Corporation Oleg Demchenko and General Director of the IAP Alexander Veprev.

Representatives of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia got acquainted with the process of production facilities reconstruction for the MC-21 program.

Yuri Slyusar stressed that the MC-21 is the key and base project of the State aviation development program. Deputy Minister praised the progress of work on preparing for the release of MC-21 aircraft as serious, and said that from the technological point of view, the project is being implemented quite successfully. In 2013 design project documentation was handed to the IAP. The first eight stations of the automated final assembly line for MC-21 aircraft are being mounted and will be put into operation in the first half of 2014. All 60 stations of the automated final assembly line, developed by Dürr Systems GmbH (Germany), are planned to put into operations in 2015. The terms of putting into operation of assembly line are agreed with the MC-21 program schedule.

As Yury Slyusar said, by the end of 2015 the first MC-21 aircraft intended for flight tests will be assembled on the new line. “It will be 180-seat MC-21-300 basic model of the MC-21 family which primarily will go into production”, - mentioned the Deputy Minister.

Yuri Slyusar also mentioned that preparations for the MC-21 production are also conducted at other enterprises. “We recently visited Ulyanovsk, where the project of manufacturing composite wing using the latest technologies is realized. Along with promising engine, this is the most important competitive advantages of the new airliner”, - he said.

The Deputy Minister noted that IRKUT gathered 175 firm orders for MC-21 airliner, which indicates a benevolent reaction of the market to a new product.

Talking about the financing of MC-21, Yuri Slyusar said that in 2014 the Federal budget provides about 17 billion rubles for this program. It was noted that for the program funding the investment credit line of the national bank - Sberbank is also provided.

The Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade informed that in prospect IRKUT Corporation should reach a production rate of seven MC-21 aircraft monthly which is quite a challenge for the Russian civil aviation. “We appreciate the management of the Corporation for the smooth preparation of the enterprise for the project realization”, - said Yuri Slyusar, summing up the visit to the IAP.
